About Us
The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility (FITA) was set up in 2000 by the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) and the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) with the aim of addressing the digital divide, and empowering disabled persons and senior citizens to make the most effective use of information communications technology (ICT).
FITA’s principle function is to guide organisations in implementing ICT accessibility and provide support to disabled individuals and senior citizens in overcoming or removing barriers to education and employment through ICT by assisting them in the selection, acquisition, or use of such assistive technology. Through empowerment and social inclusion disabled persons and senior citizens would need to rely less on family and state support. In ensuring that due steps are taken to minimise the digital divide, we aim to enable individuals to contribute productively to society and the economy and to help these individuals maintain or improve their quality of life.
Our Mission
To train and empower senior citizens and persons with disabilities in utilising ICT to create an enabling environment that provides such individuals with equal opportunities.
Our Vision
FITA – The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility, values its employees by empowering them to achieve a service of excellence addressed to all senior citizens and persons with disabilities. By making technology accessible and reachable, the Foundation ensures equal attention, inclusivity and drive related to improving one’s lifestyle..
Our Values
We believe in an ongoing commitment to excellence, continuous improvement through research, effective helpfulness at all times, and fairness of service performed with due diligence, respect, responsibility and integrity.
